Julian Simcock directs Harvard’s Program on Diplomacy and Statecraft, and is the Founder of the New York Foreign Policy Collaborative. He has held senior positions in Democratic and Republican administrations. Most recently, he served in multiple roles on the White House National Security Council, including Director for Global Criminal Justice and Multilateral Affairs, where he helped shape and execute the U.S. response at the UN to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. Earlier, he was Deputy Legal Adviser to the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, where he negotiated at the Security Council on issues related to Syria, Iran, Russia and the Indo-Pacific. At the Department of State, he served as a U.S. delegate to the Sudan ceasefire talks. Julian began his career at Goldman Sachs. He received his J.D. from Stanford Law School, M.P.A. from Harvard Kennedy School, M. Phil. from the University of Cape Town, where he was a Fulbright Scholar, and B.S. from Babson College. After law school, he clerked on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. His writing has appeared in The Atlantic and The Stanford Law Review.
