Maria José Fernández González
Maria-José Fernandez is senior adviser to the director of the Regulation Department at Banco de España and is a Banco de España representative in different international committees and working groups including the EBA, BIS, EU Council, EU Commission). She holds a degree in economics and business studies, with specialisation in auditing and finance from Colegio Universitario de Estudios Financieros (CUNEF). She also holds a degree in law from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED) and a PhD in economics with special distinction from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). She was adviser on financial regulation and policy to the deputy general director of the Treasury and Financial Policy at the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance from 2015 until 2017. Maria-Jose worked as a senior policy expert on banking regulation at the European Banking Authority between 2014 and 2015, as a senior economist in the regulation department of the Banco de España from 1989 until 2014). She held the position of associate lecturer at UNED between 1988 and 2001, worked as an auditor at KPMG from 1988 and 1989 and was deputy director of compliance, analysis and financial innovation at Descontiber in 1989.
