Head of Treasury, Desjardins Group

As the chief treasurer of Desjardins Group, Mr. Berbiche is responsible for all aspects of the organisation’s treasury management. He assumes a leadership and management role to support all strategic and operational activities by ensuring permanent access to the capital markets in order to support all Desjardins Group’s activities under optimal conditions. He is also responsible for establishing the treasury’s strategy and policy and plays a central role in establishing and steering more complex financial policies for the benefit of members and clients. The allocation of funds and other financial assets, liquidity management and interest rate matching for Desjardins Group are also under his leadership. He is in charge of managing the regulatory liquidities, developing and implementing the funding plan, ensuring the asset-liability management (ALM), contributing to the capital management, collaborating in the realization of the financial plan and contributing to the crisis simulations. Mr. Berbiche is also responsible for the effective use of excess funds, foreign exchange risk management and relations with regulatory authorities and other industry organizations. Mr. Berbiche joined the Fédération des caisses populaires Desjardins of Montréal and Western Québec in 1994 where he held several positions in finance and treasury, notably Senior International Fund Manager. In May 2001, he joined Laurentian Bank of Canada as Assistant VicePresident, Asset/Liability Management. In January 2005, he was appointed Executive VicePresident and Treasurer. He joined Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec in January 2013 as Vice-President, Treasury. He was promoted in December 2015 to the position of vice-president, treasury, performance and valuation. Mr. Berbiche holds a bachelor of business administration, which he earned in 1992 (with a major in international finance and management) from HEC Montréal and a Master of Business Administration (MBA research) from UQAM in 1994. He also obtained, in 2002, the FRM professional designation from the U.S.-based Global Association of Risk Professionals.
